What I ♡ about winter

Okay, so as the temperatures are gradually dropping, the first snow fell and the birds are moving southwards - the signs that winter has arrived are pretty much unmissable.

So before I am heading to summery Australia on Tuesday, I just really wanted to write a post to appreciate the northern hemisphere's coldest season.

Now you must know, winter is probably one of my favourite seasons – just like spring, summer and fall are, too.
Of course the low temperatures and the lack of sunlight can be frustrating and even depressing but if we’re all honest we just have to admit there are also countless positive things to it!

FASHION

When the days get chilly and people are walking the streets in warm wool jumpers and big vintage coats again, that’s when, in my opinion, you really get to know a lot about people’s tastes in fashion.
Do they dress in oversized and cozy? Vintage and preppy? Minimal and edgy? Are they just dressing for the heck of it or are they trying to make a statement? What’s their message?
It’s always been interesting for me to watch people’s fashion choices and try to identify their personal style and this is something I have found you can do especially well in the colder seasons of the year. I think it is because in winter, you can’t just pick a tank top and some denim hot pants and you’re ready to go. Many of us living in colder areas of the globe are actually putting on multiple layers of fashion as the weather get’s colder and the days shorter. And, let’s be frank, if you are actually living in a colder region it is way harder to dress trendily in winter and still make sure you stay warm underneath your clothing.

FESTIVALS

More than the actual festivals it is probably the festive atmosphere that I adore about winter.
I love to just go for a walk in the city around Christmas time when the air is filled with the smell of mouthwatering, freshly baked christmas biscuits and delicious apple-cinnamon tea.
I love the atmosphere being so overwhelmed with the overall joy of everyone looking forward the Christmas days.
If you have been reading my blog for a bit longer now, you might know that I really love hectic times and, honestly, there is probably no other time around the year that will even come close to the business on the streets right before Christmas eve. The malls are stuffed with people rushing to finish their christmas shopping in time and I love nothing more than to simply be in the middle of all that and breathe in, breathe out just to feel time slow down as I am so at peace with myself and the world while all these people around me are almost in despair looking for that perfect present for their niece or wife.

FOOD

Of course I don’t only love the smell of those self-made christmas biscuits but also, even more than that, the taste of them! There is not really much that tastes better than tasting the oven-fresh, still hot biscuits you’ve just baked for your loved ones in the overall christmassy and festive atmosphere of winter. Besides those über-delicious christmas biscuits there are also loads and loads of special foods that people traditionally enjoy during the season of winter, such as dampfnudeln, glühwein, sweet chestnuts, bread & butter pudding,... the list is endless and those are usually foods that you will commonly find at Christmas markets, not to forget the amazing meals many families like to enjoy over the christmas days.

EVENTS

With this I actually mainly mean the christmas markets that you can find in bigger cities.
Especially in Germany, these christmas markets are really something that you should visit!
They are a fixed part of the tradition and culture and a truly amazing one not to mention!
Of course, besides the markets, there's the advent days and the many late minutes sales in cities that make shopping, if it's for yourself or for presents, just so much more rewardable.

SNOW

Okay so this one is rather obvious but still worth a mention!

Not only does snow look nice and set the right mood for Christmas and winter in general but it also offers a wide range of sports related activities you can do - such as skiing, snowboarding, sledding & of course the fun things like building a snow man, making snow angels & participating in fun snowball fights!
Oh, snow.. the thing I'll definitely miss most when I'm in Australia.

What do you love most about winter and what's winter like where you're from?

Love x Hate tag

After having been tagged for this thing twice by Linnie from http://linxnee.blogspot.com & Lauren from laurlauu.blogspot.co.uk (thank you very much btw!<3), I thought it was finally time to upload a post to this – I'm very sorry I kept you waiting for so long.
But here we go!

Let's start with the things I hate/dislike:
  • Arguments, they're just so horribly nerve-wrecking
  • Know-it-alls and arrogant people, because their attitude...
  • Salty snacks, I don't know why, I just don't like them ^^;
  • Cats, most cats I've encountered have always been kind of evil
  • Kitschy movies like Titanic.. Yup, I'm probably one of the few girls that didn't fall for DiCaprio..
  • Spiders because spiders..
  • Jealousy & envy because that's just not cool and honestly, I think it says more about you then the person you envy or hate on for some reason..
  • Homophobic, sexist & racist people. because intolerance is such a no-go!
  • Meat – I just don't like the taste & I'm a veggie, currently even vegan!
  • Deep water since I'm just terribly afraid of water as soon as it get's so deep I cannot see what's beneath me anymore.

Now to the more happy things of life, the things I love:
  • My dog because she's the best & I promise she wouldn't bite you :)
  • Books, especially ones that can take you into an entirely different world like novels of the fantasy genre, I do like educational books sometimes, too though!
  • Horror/thriller movies simply because I like to get scared as long as I know it's not real ^^;
  • Philosophy – you can debate anything and everything with me!
  • Astrophysics, that has been my interest since I was a kid, it's so fascinating, you can't even imagine all the things out there!
  • Chocolate, yum <3
  • Japanese food! I love sushi, dorayaki, osaka ramen, curry, onigiri, teriyaki soba, …
  • Art – I love doing it myself but I love being inspired by it just as much!
  • Meeting new people, I love (most) people!
  • Traveling.. there's probably nothing I love more! Wanderlust.:)
Yes, my dog might look like a seal but you just gotta love her! :3
I hope this wasn't too boring and helped you to get a better insight into my life and me as a person.
I don't even know if I can still nominate people to do this because I'm so late with it but I'm gonna do it anyways, I nominate:
Angelina from http://www.angelina-is.blogspot.com/
Lauren from http://www.adornlafemme.com/
& Amy from http://littlemoondragon.blogspot.ca/

What are some things you love or hate?

Chanel x Zara

This is one of my favourite summer outfits!
It's very light and casual but still looks stylish.
For the look I've combined my striped Zara tunic, Lamoda ankle boots and a
convenient hand bag by Chanel. It's so simple.

The comfortable linen material of the tunic allows my skin to breathe even in hot and humid weather.

For my make-up I've used:

  • Canmake Perfect Serum bb cream 01 light
  • It's Skin Babyface Blusher in peach
  • Estée Lauder Pure Color eyeshadow
  • Estée Lauder Sumptuous Extreme mascara
  • Dolly Wink liquid eyeliner by Koji
  • & EOS lip balm in mint to enhance my lips natural look

And this is the result:

I'm quite happy with it, especially because I could now finally prove people wrong who kept telling me
I'd look like an me or goth with 'smokey eye' make up. Yeah, such a goth..

I hope you enjoyed this post - I'll hopefully have the chance to post more look posts asap!

little update.

Looong time no blog post & I'm very sorry for that!
I have been so busy with school and trips on the weekend
that i simply forgot about this blog for a while.
Haha I have also celebrated my birthday in that time,
the prêt-a-porter chanel fasion show took place and (of course) the Oscars!
In legendary memory, Ellen's selfie, which made it to the most popular photo on twitter and tumblr! ~☆

I don't know why but it makes me smile everytime i look at it.
To the world's suprise the oscar didn't go to Di Cabrio ~ sorry Leo, next time, i'm sure!

There have also been some changes in my life! (^0^)
For example i've got a tattoo on my ankle last weekend and i have no regrets.
It didn't hurt too much but the feeling that describes it probably best is: like a someone is cutting you with a knife. It sounds really bad but you actually get used to it quite quickly and i have already have my next tattoo in planning which is gonna be on the side of my body, the rip area.
I am already looking forward it, but hope i am not gonna become addicted to it haha..
If you think about getting a tattoo, you should think about the place where you want to get it and the meaning it has to you though. it shouldn't be something stupid you want to remove in two years anyway or for example on a very visible place like the hands where everybody can see it so they could get a negative impression of you.
I chose the birds, which i have designed myself by drawing them first so it is pretty unique and then gave the template to the tattoo artist who put it on my skin.
I am super happy with the result and it means a lot to me. for example and that's the most important thing ~the birds symbolize freedom.
If you are not good at drawing there are plenty of books at most studios where you can have a free choice of patterns.
I was also very suprised about the price, which was only 45£!
it is quite cheap i think, especially compared to luxembourg where i, i think, couldn't have got the same tattoo for under 80£
Here are some photos of my visit at the tattoo studio, the result, and my birthday !

my self-drawn template:

finally getting it ~ my very first tattoo
